Those
who know what love is see it everywhere.
  
 
 
At dawn, Master Wei and student Di walked through the
quiet village. The roofs were still wet with night, and
the air carried the faint scent of steamed rice.
Di asked, "Master, everyone speaks of love as if it is a
rare jewel. Why do I see so little of it?"
Master Wei stopped beside an old woman sweeping her
doorstep. Her broom was worn, yet she brushed the ground
with gentle patience.
"Di," he said, "what do you see here?"
"A woman cleaning," Di replied.
Wei nodded and continued walking. They passed a farmer
adjusting the rope on his tired mule, whispering to it
as though speaking to a friend.
"What do you see now?" Wei asked.
"A man preparing for work."
Wei smiled. "And there,” he pointed to a child placing
half of his bun into a stray dog’s mouth. “What do you
see?"
"A child feeding an animal."
Master Wei folded his hands behind his back. "Di, love
is not a jewel hidden in the mountains. It is the thread
that holds ordinary moments together. Those who know
what love is do not search for it. They recognize it.
And because they recognize it, they see it everywhere."
Di looked again at the woman, the farmer, and the child.
For the first time, the village seemed brighter.
