The world is the same, but
each person perceives it differently.

Understand and Manage Perceptions in Negotiations and Conflicts

Take Perceptual Differences Into Account

Perceptual differences occur when individuals are exposed to the same stimuli and perceive them in different ways. Be aware of the lenses of our perceptions that make us see things as we are not as they are.

This is especially important in intercultural communication that has additional barriers to overcome.

To be able to recognize, appreciate, adapt to, manage, and benefit from perceptual differences, develop perceptual awareness and empathy.

Be willing to take different perceptual positions to get a deeper insight into driving forces, differences and synergy opportunities.

Be Flexible and Reframe

Different perceptual positions help discover the full picture

All too often the way you frame a problem contains an assumption that prevents you from solving it.

Reframing the issue is often the first step toward a great solution.

In win-win conflict resolution and/or negotiation, empathize to understand perceptions , be flexible and reframe issues, if required. Reframing is about considering every issue from many different aspects in order to see the full picture. You can reframe context, content, and/or value to be created. If you don't reframe, you can see just one side of the situation. Reframe a situation, a challenge, or a problem, and you will discover other sides of it and better ways to address the issue!

In marketing, "an ounce of image is worth a pound of performance." You must do your best to create winning consumer perceptions, because if you don't you will not win customers.
