Product marketing starts with the product name.

To achieve an identity in the market place, the creation of the Product Name should be treated as a live-or-die decision.

Having the right name is as important as having the right product.

Good names instantly communicate the core distinctive feature of a product, trigger emotions and create an impact.

A well differentiated name helps your product to stand out from the pack and be noticed.

Brand Appeal: how to come up with a Attractive Product Name

Product branding involves creating a unique identity and value proposition for a specific product, giving it a standalone presence in the market.

This process is crucial for differentiating the product from competitors and establishing a connection with customers.

How to Come Up with an Attractive Name as a Team

① Assemble a team of people who think differently. Diversity of thinking prevents herd mentality and stimulates team creativity.

② Consider the product positioning and target market from different perspectives. Who do you want to send a message to with the name you create? What is its appeal? What dreams does this name seek to evoke?

③ Agree on the criteria that the brand/product name should meet. Such criteria can be, for example: short, bright, memorable, original, humorous and/or intriguing.
Have each participant describe in one word how the product most favorably differs from competitors.

④ Let each participant describe in two words what the main consumer value of the product is. Based on these descriptions, make a list of synonyms. After handing out a coin to each participant, invite each to invest the coin in the description they like best. Choose 3 winners.

⑤ Have each participant put on a hat of a complete stranger – for instance, a child, a grandmother, Salvador Dali, Donald Trump, Shakespeare, or Zhvanetsky – and describe the product in a few words. After giving each participant a coin, invite each to invest the coin in the name they like best. Choose 3 winners..

⑥ After announcing the winners of stages 5 and 6 and providing each participant with a list of these winners, invite each participant to come up with a product name that meets the agreed criteria. After giving each participant a coin, invite each to invest the coin in the name they like best. Choose 3 winners.

⑦ On the website, in social networks and/or messenger, quickly experiment with messages bearing the names of the winners and analyze the messages with the name that were opened more often. If the gap is obvious, you can stop at this name. If the gap is not obvious, then you can creatively generate one best-possible name from the laureates.
