Wellbeing
Definition ▪ 6 Components
▪ Examples

|
|
| |
Wellbeing (or well-being) refers
to the state of feeling happy
and healthy, encompassing
aspects of welfare and quality
of life.
For a
self-assessor, wellbeing is
a
perception. For external
assessors, wellbeing is a set of
measures. Wellbeing measures how
well life is going for an
individual and can impact
personal aspirations,
decision-making, and
productivity.

"How easy it is to
govern when one follows a
system of consulting the will of
the people and one holds as the
only norm all the actions which
contribute to the well being of
the people."

Che Guevara

Components of
Well-being

 |
|
Community wellbeing refers to a
holistic assessment of various factors that affect the quality of
life in a community. It is the combination of social, economic,
environmental,
growth, cultural, and political conditions identified by
community members as empowering them to flourish and fulfill their
potential. |

Example: Lend Lease
Lend Lease founder Dick
Dusseldorp and former chairman
Stuart Hornery recognised the
importance of ‘employee
wellbeing’, and it’s direct link
to a company’s performance. If
employees were happy and
healthy, well supported and
appreciated, more often than
not, the company’s performance
positively reflected this
sentiment. The founders
enshrined this approach in the
firm's
10 Guiding Principles and
established the
Employee and Community Wellbeing
Fund.
